Color King Carbon Steel Coat-Free Pan & Wok Use & Care Guide
Color King Carbon Steel Coat-Free Pan & Wok Use & Care Guide
Before Use
Follow these simple steps to prepare your pan for a lifetime of cooking:
- Clean: Wash the pan/wok with mild dish soap using a non-scratch pad (e.g. 3M blue/purple pad, coconut or nylon brush). Avoid steel wool.
- Dry & Heat: Use medium-low heat until water droplets roll around the surface (water bead test).
- Apply Oil & Heat: Use a kitchen towel or soft brush to wipe oil evenly across the entire cooking surface. Then, heat the pan or wok for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Rest Overnight: Leave the oiled pan overnight for best results.
Your pan is now seasoned and ready for mindful, coat-free cooking!
After Use
To maintain your pan’s natural stick-resistant performance and long lifespan, follow these easy steps after every use:
- Clean Gently: While still warm, scrub with a non-scratch pad or natural fibre brush (e.g. 3M blue/purple pad, coconut or nylon brush). Avoid dish soap, dishwasher, or steel wool, as they may strip away the natural surface.
- Dry Completely: Wipe and dry both inside and out. Store in a well-ventilated place to prevent rust.
Tip: If you’ve washed with dish soap, perform a light oil conditioning before storing. Perform routine oil conditioning regularly.
Routine Oil Conditioning
Regular oil conditioning helps strengthen the natural patina for better stick resistance:
- Heat: Warm the pan over medium heat.
- Oil: Add about half a cup of oil and swirl to coat the entire interior.
- Condition: Once evenly coated and lightly smoking, pour out the excess oil.
- Ready: Wipe lightly and it’s ready for your next cooking session.
Over time, your pan will develop a beautiful, naturally non-stick finish - a sign of mindful, coat-free cooking.
